On January 13, 2009,CNNIC published the 23th Statistics Report for China Internet Developing Situation. The report indicated that until the end of 2008, net citizens in our country have reached 298 million and the popularity rate of internet (22.6%) in our country surpassed the average level of the globe, 21.9% for the first time.

On February 24,2009.CNNIC and representatives of registrars and partners from all regions in China and overseas hosted the 6th China Internet Address Resource Registrars Conference, in which they communicated on management, services, promotion, and experience and application prospect of China internet address resources.

On April 9, 2009,SSL Certificate, a server domain name certificate developed by CNNIC itself, successfully passed the most authoritatire, strict Webtrust safety standard auditing in the globe and became the first server domain name certificate in China that obtained credit of current browsers in the world such as Microsoft and IE, which fulfilled the gap of domain name security service field developed and managed by our country.

On April 20, 2009,the 15th anniversary for China’s connection into internet, CNNIC cooperated with main websites in initiating a net citizen voting activity named “Ten Big Events for the Development of China’s Internet”, in which net citizens and experts elected two versions of “Ten Big Events for the Development of China’s Internet” from two aspects.

On may 7, 2009,CNNIC initiated the popularization of national application for Domain Name“.中国”, which promoted the promotion and application of Chinese domain names.

On June 3, 2009,the 12th anniversary for CNNIC’s founding, some famous experts in the filed of international internet like Harald Tveit Alvestrand, Director of ICANN and Paul Vixie, Chairman of Internet Software System consortium (ISC) arrived and congratulated CNNIC.

On June 4, 2009,CNNIC united domain name service practitioners in holding the first domain name conference in our country, with conference visitors more than 1,000. The guests present at the conference discussed about the present situation of domain name industry’s development in our country, problems to be faced and the future development orientation.

On July 16, 2009,CNNIC published the 24th Statistics Report for China Internet Developing Situation. The data indicated that until June 30, 2009, net citizens in China have reached 338 million, broadband net citizens 320 million and national top-level domain name registration 12.96 million. The above three indexes remain ranking the first in the globe.

On July 13th, 2009,Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councillor made inspection and guidance on the work of CNNIC. During the inspection, Liu pointed out that domain name system, as an important infrastructure for internet, is of vital strategic significance for social and economic development, cultural construction, information communications and safety in the whole country. As a national domain name registry, CNNIC takes on great responsibility and glorious mission.

On July 22, 2009,CNNIC completely upgraded domain name resolution system of nine top-level nodes in the globe. The duration for CN domain name resolution to come into effect was shorted to about 15 minutes from the original four hours around and the speed for resolution to come

into effect had reached the leading position in the world.

From August 20 to 22, 2009,Conference for Members of Asia Pacific Top Level Domains Association (APTLD) was successfully held in Beijing, in which CNNIC acted as host. Full discussions and exchanges concerning domain name operation and maintenance services, domain name security, internationalized domain name development, etc. were carried out in this conference.

On August 26, 2009,the 28th Asia-Pacific Network Information Center Opening Policy Conference (APNIC 28) titled “Internet in China & Opening Ceremony”, hosted by CNNIC, was held in Beijing. During the conference, hot discussion was aroused on new situations and various challenges facing the development of Asia-pacific internet. It is the first time for APNIC Opening Policy Conference to be held in Beijing in history.

On October 26, 2009,CNNIC organized and held Annual Conference for China Anti-Phishing Association in 2009. It is showed according to the latest statistical date published by the Association that until October 22, 2009, Phishing website domain names recognized and dealt with by Secretariat of Association had been accumulated to 8,342. None of the punished phishing site made complaints.

On October 29, 2009,Joint Laboratory for Internet Address Technology was founded in Beijing by CNNIC and CISCO. Extensive cooperation will be carried out through Joint Laboratory on relevant fields such as address distribution, address management, address identity, address security and IPv6 technology and new algorithms, agreements and tools will be developed by means of analysis, analog and design so to provide methods for resolution of the internet for the next generation.

On December 2,2009,CNNIC was elected as “Star of Strength” of China’s internet in the opening ceremony for China Internet Conference in 2009, the reason for which was “.CN” had ranked the largest national top-level domain name with the largest registration amount in the globe. It witnessed China internet’s rise in the international internet filed.

From December 5 to 6, 2009,CNNIC hosted Fall Work Conference of “Domain Name System Operation analysis Research Center” (DNS-OARC), held by world leading domain name technology research organization in Beijing. Problems such as new challenges facing DNS system, DNS operation data analysis and DNS safety solutions were discussed in the meeting. It was the first time for DNS-OARC to hold work conference in China.

On November 16,2009,CNNIC held International Application Ceremony for Domain Name “.中国” and submitted an international application for “.中国” to Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) officially on behalf of China.

On December 10,2009,CNNIC organized and carried out specific governance on domain name registration information, regulated improper domain name applications and protected the interests of the public.
