China Broadband Development Alliance (“CBDA” or “the Alliance” hereinafter) held its inaugural meeting in Beijing on February 25. High officials from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), experts and academicians from the field of information and communications and representatives from the business circle attended the meeting, at which, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) was elected Vice-president member of CBDA, and Liu Bing, Deputy Director of CNNIC, was named Vice President of the Alliance.

CBDA was founded by China Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT in conjunction with telecom operators, major Internet companies, manufacturers, and related scientific research organizations. The Strategic Advisory Committee of CBDA, composed of officials from MIIT, NDRC and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST), as well as experts from the sector of information and communications, is responsible for formulating broadband development strategies and providing directional guidance. As the Alliance’s routine administrative office, the CBDA Secretariat performs the functions of membership service, event planning, financial administration, etc. To advance broadband application, the Alliance currently has set up three working groups dedicated to policy planning, technology innovation and industry promotion respectively.

　

The highest authority of CBDA is the General Assembly, with the Council as its executive body. Wu Hequan, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, was elected President of the Council. Twelve other people were elected Vice Presidents, including Zhang Jiping, Deputy General Manager of China Telecom Group; Liu Aili, Vice President of China Mobile Communications Corporation; Zhang Junan, Deputy General Manager of China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd.; Cao Shumin, President of China Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT; Lu Wei, Secretary-General of the Internet Society of China; Liu Bing, Deputy Director of CNNIC; Jiang Yang, Vice President of Tencent Computer System Co. , Ltd.; Liu Deyue, President of Youku-Tudou Inc.; Liu Hongtao, Vice President of ChinaNetCenter Co., Ltd.; Zhang Ken, Vice President of ChinaCache Communication Technology Co., Ltd.; Liu Wenbo, Cloud Computing CEO of Shanda Network Development Co., Ltd.; and Luo Yi, Vice President of Xinhua Co., Ltd.

It is reported that the Alliance’s current work will be focused on three aspects, namely, the study of the broadband development index system and the broadband development report, the research on broadband policies, technologies, industry, as well as the broadband public service. Serving as a bridge linking the government, the enterprise and the general public, CBDA is committed to promoting the cooperation and exchange between various parties involved in the broadband industry chain, creating a good environment for the healthy and rapid development of China's broadband industry, and building the next generation of national information infrastructure that is featured by big bandwidths, high integration, security and ubiquity, so as to better support China's economic, technological and social development.
