On Mar. 2013, Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) released internationalized technical standards on the Post Office Protocol (POP) extension and the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) extension, which support Internationalized multilingual email. Cooperation with the foreign technical experts, YAO Jiankang and SHEN Shuo, the experts from CNNIC, completed these two technical standards as the major author. On Feb. 2012, IETF officially released four core standards related to SMTP extension, companied with these four standards related to POP and IMAP extension, which marks the completion of the core series of technical standards on the technology system of multilingual email with Internationalized email address. Brief introduction of the Email with Internationalized Email Address

The multilingual email refers to the email using an internationalized email address. The internationalized email address is the email address containing non-English characters, such as Chinese characters, Japanese characters, Qianhualin@中科院.中国 e.g. The original international technical standards on email protocol can’t support the internationalized email address. In order to solve this problem, the internationalized technical standards on the international multilingual email box (also known as the internationalized email address) must be developed in the international Internet technology organization IETF.
