The Annual Work Conference of BIND 10 Project Team Held at CNNIC
From April 26 to 30, the annual work conference of BIND 10 Project Team led by Internet Systems Consortium (ISC), a world leading institution in domain name technologies, was held at CNNIC, and technical developers from US, the Netherlands, and Japan attended the event. The work conference summarized the R&D progress of BIND 10 software in 2009, established the project advancement plan in 2010, and made in-depth discussion about technical details of BIND 10.
The conference disclosed the latest progress of BIND 10. Up to now, there have been two versions of BIND 10 software released. The latest version contains the authoritative name server with the basic lookup function that conforms to the RFC protocol. CNNIC is a member of the project’s steering committee, and its engineers designed and developed some key modules including user interface, data updating, and python language interface of DNS basic library. Meanwhile, CNNIC will also on behalf of BIND 10 Project Team to listen to the demands and feedbacks of important users in China like ISP, with a view to guiding the design and fulfillment of BIND 10 in the next stage.
BIND 10 is the next generation of DNS resolution software developed under the leading of ISC in April 2009. Considering the defects of BIND 9 software in security and the next generation of Internet, the new software is designed to further improve the security of DNS resolution. Now BIND9 is the server software that fulfills the relevant standards of domain name system to the greatest extent, and over 80% users have installed the software. In June 2009, three engineers of CNNIC joined BIND 10 Project Team.
On February 8, 2010, CNNIC-ISC Join Lab on Internet Technologies was established, jointly hammering at researching into and driving the advanced Internet technologies including the development of BIND 10 software. This annual conference is also a staged summary for furthering the cooperation between the two sides. In addition, in order to intensify communication and cooperation, ISC will also pay a 3-month academic visit to CNNIC from April to June.
