The Establishment of CNNIC-ISC Join Lab on Internet Technologies
In order to deal withthe security vulnerability of the domain name system and provide basic Internet services with greater reliability, on February 8, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) and Information Services Corporation (ISC), a world leading institution in domain name technologies, signed an agreement in Beijing, announcing to establish the CNNIC-ISC Join Lab on Internet Technologies (CILAB), jointly hammering at the in-depth research on the trusted domain name technologies of the next generation of Internet. Paul Vixie, Chairman of ISC, and Dr. Xiaodong LI, Deputy Director of CNNIC respectively served as the persons-in-charge of the joint lab on behalf of the American side and Chinese side.
At the signing ceremony, both sides announced the cooperation contents of CILAB in the four fields of software research and development, operation management, technical research and service, including the development of the next generation of DNS resolution software (BIND 10), Internet data analysis, joint formulation of technical standards, and provision of emergency response service to the failure of China’s domain name system.
BIND 10 is the next generation of DNS resolution software. Targeting at the security flaws in BIND 9 and the next generation of Internet, it is designed to further improve the security of DNS resolution. As early as June 2009, three engineers of CNNIC have joined the major technical development project of BIND 10. In addition, in 2010 CILAB will also, by way of training and consultation, provide timely and effective emergency responses to various possible domain name security problems in China with the leading technologies of both sides in the field of domain name, so as to reduce the adverse impact of domain name failures.
ISC and CNNIC both have strong advantages in domain name technology and operation, and through cooperation, the two institutions will develop an increasing number of advanced technologies so as to improve the security and reliability of DNS.
